Abstract
La Biblioteca Foral de Bizkaia se creó gracias al donativo de la colección de Fidel de Sagarmínaga en 1894. Su contenido únicamente se conoce a través de un informe coetáneo de Carmelo de Echegaray, porque ese fondo original no se mantuvo indiferenciado del resto. Desde entonces, esa colección se ha desarrollado con arreglo a las características del donativo inicial. El análisis de un catálogo antiguo ha posibilitado replantear el contenido real del donativo, así como los motivos por los que la Biblioteca Foral adoptó su naturaleza actual.
The Regional Library of Biscay was created thanks to the donation of Fidel de Sagarmínaga's collection in 1894. Its contents are only known through a contemporary report by Carmelo de Echegaray, because that original collection did not remain undifferentiated from the rest. Since then, this collection has been developed according to the characteristics of the initial donation. Analysis of an old catalog has made it possible to rethink the real content of the donation, as well as the reasons why the Provincial Library adopted its current nature.
